Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is supposed to be one of THE places to go on the Gold Coast however while I am sure they do sterling work helping out animals there is not actually a huge amount to see, its just spread out over a large distance! In fact if you are not interesting in looking a caged birds, which I have to say is my least favourite zoo animal, there is even less to see.
The layout of the zoo nesesitates some back tracking, its built of several loops so you cant walk around it in one smooth route. The loops all take you past the cafe, so those with children can expect to buy an ice-cream once per loop.
They do have one pretty large croc, though if you want crocs you are better off going to Australia Zoo of course. There are a few Koala, though Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary near Brisbane does this much better, in fact I would say Loan Pine does the whole thing better despite being smaller. The Lone Pine kangeroo enclosure is deffinately the better of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, it’s cheaper too.
Now to be honest we did miss some of the shows, the show times are on the websites but to see them all you are going to need to spend the entire day at this place which will include quite a few hours of either seeing it again or just waiting. Having said that they have many similar shows again at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where they tend to run the more popular shows twice a day.
Of course if the guage of success of a park is the word they do with animals then perhaps they are both winners, just one gives a better day out!
