I came, I saw, I cocked it up…and I started again!
A couple of days ago I wrote a lense about how to clear virus problems from your computer for free, and then out of the blue despite having NOD32 on my laptop I started getting problems. Blue screens, something I have not seen for years, slow internet, computer running hot etc etc. The alarm bells rang in my head, I clicked the switch to turn off my wifi and investigated. It turned out something had disabled NOD32 AND SuperAntiSpyware and was using my laptop as part of a peer to peer network to distribute cracks. Great.
Nothing I did in windows would get rid of the problem, so I had to use the Live CD from Kaspersky. The cleanup took over 6 hours (I went to bed in the end so I have no idea how long it took). However the system was clear at last, WiFi no longer worked in Windows but at least I could use the laptop again.
Got the Dell laptop now, and I am still using NOD32. I guess I will fix the Sony at some point, though there is no way I could go back to working on it! The power difference between an original Centrino 1.1ghz and the latest dual core Centrino2 2.66ghz is out of this world. The only issue is the laptop came with Vista, but I get a free upgrade to Windows 7, which I will certainly use as Vista gets to me!
