It is quite hard to believe BUT it’s almost impossible to get fitted shoes for babies in Queensland Australia.

While some of the larger department stores will measure your child’s foot they only stock E or average widths.  Several of the stores we went to clearly did not even know how to measure the length of a baby’s foot. In Myer, in Pacific Fair, the people before us had a child with wide feet, so they were sold longer shoes, as wide ones were not available.

When it was our turn the lady fumbled around with the measure, told us we needed a size 4 and then said they had none in stock. By this point we would not have bought anyway!

So today we drove all the way to the north of Brisbane to visit Tammy’s (Tel. 07 3359 3999) and while they did not have much selection (we are between seasons) they found 4 different shoes with the correct width and length in stock there and then.

The only other option I know of is to get a measuring device and meausre your babies feet yourself and order online, there is a company in the UK called Startrite which does this.
